Saltwater Rods
There is a lot of hoopla and hype in the marketing of fishing tackle, just like in most things. It can be hard to separate the substance from the sizzle. I have tried to do that to the best of my ability on this site by highlighting some things that have worked well for me. Below are recommendations for the best saltwater rods that I know of. These are my unbiased opinions as I am not compensated by any of these tackle companies. I don't care what brand you buy. I have personally used every item listed below, and most of the fish shown on this website (at least in my photos) were caught on tackle described on this site.
Shakespeare Ugly Stik - Budget Option
The Shakespeare Ugly Stik has been around for many years and is available in a wide range of sizes, styles, and actions. It is been around so long because it is an inexpensive and incredibly durable rod that will catch big fish year after year. These are nearly unbreakable and can be used on everything from Redfish to Tuna. They are a little on the heavy side, but the value for the price cannot be beat.

The Shimano Teramar line of rods includes a wide variety of rods, primarily for inshore fishing. They are very versatile and can be used for Calico Bass, Yellowtail, and any number of mid-sized ocean fish. They make West Coast and East Coast versions which is an interesting touch. They are solid rods that are relatively lightweight and represent a good value for the money. Click below to buy through Amazon:
Calstar Grafighter - High End
These are pretty much the only conventional rods I use for saltwater fishing. Strong, light, sensitive, and everything else you would want in a rod. Mine are custom wrapped but the factory models are very good as well. Most of the biggest fish shown on this site were caught with these rods. Excellent for everything from the middleweights like Yellowtail, White Seabass, Dorado, and Wahoo to the big boys like Marlin, Tuna, and Goliath Grouper.
If you were thinking of purchasing one anyway and learned anything useful from this site, please consider purchase through the links below:
