Heru Bobara Lure Review
The Heru Bobara is a very good lure for tropical reef fishing for a variety of species. I've caught Giant Trevally, other Trevallies, Snappers, Groupers, and various other fish on it. I like to tie it on in a variety of situations, including in areas where I might otherwise be using a Heru Cubera Popper but there is too much surface disturbance for a popper to stand out. Sometimes a sinking lure like this is more visible to fish and will work when poppers will not. It works well in all sea conditions as well. I fish it with long sweeps of the rod followed by pauses while I reel in the slack. This causes the lure to swim forward erratically and then lurch forward and pause. It works best with a rod with a little softer tip. In terms of color I'm partial to Green Mackerel as shown in these photos. The lure is made of wood and is very durable, but if fish grab it hard their teeth may sink in a bit and the hook may not get set into their mouths. This can allow the fish to just open their mouth and release the lure. Make sure you set the hook hard multiple times with these things.
